A case I’ve made before I worked here is to think bigger. Nobody is paid big money for writing articles, not on Medium, not on the NYTimes. The people who actually make big money on Medium are people who get paid twice. The case study we use inside the company is a business consultant who writes great business strategy here and sources at least one $500k contract each year. There is huge money to be made by using writing to turn yourself into an expert and then getting paid for that expertise. Regardless of Medium’s changing incentives directly working against content mill writers, I don’t understand why anyone would limit themselves to that type of writing. It’s at best a small time living. And as many of you know, it’s often not even that.
