Was there a control group? I'm asking because these 10k bike times seem weirdly slow and I wonder if that means the improvement times should be thrown out. I'll try to explain.
This study group seems like they are actually very fit if you look at weight and self-reported exercise volumes.
But the 10k times are very slow. For comparison, I weigh more and exercise less and could probably complete the test in ~ 16 minutes. My difference is that when I ride, I often ride hard.
Given that they are cyclists to start with, a 29 min average 10k implies that none of these athletes ever ride above zone 2. I'm having a hard time seeing it any other way.
So if that were true, this improvement in times could be explained in a lot of ways including that the first test ride created an important training effect. Yeah?
