As a senior manager (I guess), I just want to know you looked at at least three approaches and didn’t just latch on to the first thing that came to mind. Handing me three without a recommendation isn’t much better.

So you could say, “Here’s a proposal for X. I also looked at Y, but I think it has this fatal problem, and Z which has this other problem.”

When someone comes to me having looked at only one solution it makes me nervous, like we won’t be able to have a rational discussion. So often, there is a lot of pride and confirmation bias tied into that single solution.
