Double lines is the majority use case so it is the default. The vast majority of writing here is paragraph based.

There was a saying in the first programming language I learned: make the easy things easy and the hard things possible. That’s the reason for the double line break.


Poems have more technical formatting requirements and so this is a new way to achieve them. Obviously programming is the primary use case but I think there are lots of secondary use cases for this feature including poems. I use them for table of contents and ASCII tables.
