Hard to talk about w/o the actual example. But as a former editor, I disagree about speed. We all want the same thing which is for the members to be more satisfied so that they will stay and more will come. So there are actually a lot of disqualifying reasons to show them something that can be spotted very quickly. For example we've recently added guidelines about title and subtitle because there is no point boosting something that isn't going to be clicked on. The boost is showing a story to people who haven't heard of the pub or writer and so the title/subtitle is all they have to go on when it comes to making a reading decision.
