How well have we been communicating where Medium is going? I'm wondering if it's obvious to your readers that it would be easy to follow this tactic in a way that is 100% at odds with what Medium is trying to distribute and incentivize. There are a lot of ways that we talk about quality but all of them start with some sort of authentic interest and experience with a story.

I completely believe that if someone's goal is to hustle money out of Medium that it might work in the short term. So I'm just double checking how well people understand that this is the writer's equivalent of an ambulance chasing lawyer. Important, Medium is not trying to support this sort of hustle.

We think this hustle has always been a dead end. The treadmill stinks. The readers don't like the output. The world doesn't get better or smarter. We acknowledge that Medium has previously incentivized quantity over quality. But we are doing everything possible to reverse that which means authors should be looking at fewer better pieces.
