Of course I'm worldly enough to have at least heard that anger often has a fear underneath it. But I assumed that fear was about each writer's situation. I hadn't considered that it was about us.

When I saw people say we were failing I read it instead as more anger.

Medium is not going out of business. But we're also not rich and there is no more investor money coming to save us. So we have to continue to run it like a business. That means if we can pay a writer a dollar and make at least a dollar and one cents back then we will do it.
