I have to imagine you are thinking about a very particular type of story when you say everything else is a matter of taste.

Does it expand your thinking at all to consider the manual that came with your car (assuming you have or have had a car)?

If I were to write that manual, it would be readable. shorter, punchier, more entertaining. But it would be wrong at every step. I don't know anything about cars and wouldn't even know what model to claim to be writing about.

The manual that came with your car, despite dry writing, is higher quality.
