I want to leave a comment here about a tiny part of your note, the word political, because that part hasn’t been fully covered in our post. I bristle at the idea that having values makes us political. Medium was built by people who are LGBTQIA+. Supporting them, which is essentially supporting ourselves, isn't political. Being interested in new ideas and information isn't political--and the way political parties monopolize the conversation with hateful division gets in the way of that goal. It's not our fault when certain parties around the world align themselves closer or further to our values. That's on them.
