I read this through the lens of Medium's goals to "deepen your understanding of the world."

With that as a starting point, we are required to dampen these feelings of division because understanding people on the other side of these manufactured divides is such a key part of deep understanding.

I know we do a better job than other platforms. The Trust & Safety team here was miles ahead and as a result there is a lot more oxygen here that would otherwise be consumed by the standard divisive battles. Plus one of the leaders in the company literally wrote a book on productive disagreement, Why Are We Yelling. So there is a good foundation.

But there always seems to be one active topic where we can't quite close the divide. The current one is the war in Gaza. I'm going to be curious how we handle that in this Digest. Is there anything else that feels divisive here where we could be doing more to create shared understanding?
