I wish Coach.me was on this list. This list of websites to learn something new triggers an eternal struggle we have in the App Store: what category do we list ourselves in?

For a long time we were in Health & Fitness. But more than half of coaching purchases are about performance in Business. So we moved ourselves to Productivity, which seems like more of a natural fit.

But we’ve got tons of great diet coaches. What does that have about productivity?

And what about all the people being coached in a category like meditation? That’s learning a new skill.

Our bottom line is always that someone learns a new behavior. That’s the essence of coaching.

That’s a superset of education. It’s not enough to present new information, coaches have to make sure that education is put into practice.

That’s probably my biggest epiphany as I’ve started to meet coaches. There’s really something incredibly special about a person who can teach you and has the empathy to sit with you until you’ve put that teaching into practice.

I guess what I’m saying is this: coaches are gold. It probably doesn’t matter too much what category we end up listing ourselves in.
