I’ll answer since I end up giving a lot of self-improvement advice through writing here, through building tools, and through training coaches.
Does happiness matter?
Definitely. I’ve always tried to avoid any indication that I’m trying to fix people or that you aren’t fine the way you are. I give advice hoping I can increase people’s sense of satisfaction with their lives, rather than reduce their sense of dissatisfaction.
Am I personally happy?
Generally yes. I’m in a long term relationship that has a lot of love. I mostly do work that I love. I’ve achieved things in the past that I’m proud of.
I only carry a tiny bit of shame or self-loathing. Mostly I’m okay with who I am now and who I used to be.
How do I feel about leisure?
I find time to embrace leisure, what Buster Benson calls Cat Mode. For example, I love television and make time to watch the best.
But my ambition does leak out here — I’m mindful about finding great television and then I’m passionate about talking about it. So maybe that’s not Cat Mode.
