I've never said a word to the Medium community that ended up being as upsetting to them as the word expert. Non experts hated it and experts assumed it didn't apply to them.

But everyone is by definition an expert in their own lives. And so it follows that every person has an important story to tell that can help share that expertise.

That was the original promise of blogging. It's only later that people realized you don't have to blog about things you know about, you can retell other people's stories, you can make stuff up, and you can say it all with whatever level of confidence as you want.
