Testing it a bit this morning, I think it's great for discovery and I think that's so important. There are tons of great publications and authors here that are impossible to find. So turning this on reopens discovery in a great way. Publication search is broken, returning mostly dead publications, so there really isn't any way to find other publications unless you notice them while they are having a viral hit.

I'm hungry for that on Medium, but I think having these be automatically generated has the effect of robbing them of any connective or social value. If I saw one of my publications on your blogroll I wouldn't feel any sort of special acknowledgement from you because I know you didn't put any effort or intention behind the recommendation.

Maybe Blogrolls are the wrong place for that feeling and that there just needs to be more of a culture mentions and reblogging. In that direction, a simple change is that linking to someone's article should generate a notification (trackback). That's a huge ego boost that is easy to miss.
