The two of you are dragging me into intrigue when there is none. Neither of you look good here.
High volume publications like the Illumination don't work well with the new following feed. So a reasonable outcome is that people are unfollowing these types of publications and traffic is down.
Many people, maybe even most people, want the role of a publication to be curatorial. I agree with this. Every post in a publication is a curation decision by that publication. Medium has made a mistake in the past by limiting the curatorial impact of publications and I expect that we will continue to go in this current direction of making the curation decisions of publications more powerful.
It's then a matter of the taste of readers whether they think Illumination is doing a good job in terms of curating articles that followers want to read. I think it's obvious why people think the Illumination is not. But I've also heard that some people do like the Illumination’s curation decisions. This is what's great about Medium--readers can choose.
Outside of policy, I would appreciate if the two of you would double check how you are acting. Especially this lawsuit threat smells like bullshit. But so is the amount of quoting of me as if I've chosen a side. Is this something that absolutely needs the time of Medium employees to weigh in on?
