There's a type of event called unconferences that introduced what they called "The law of two feet" which was basically that given multiple options for sessions to attend, a person should be always move to the session that gave them the most value, even if that meant getting up in the middle of an active session and walking to a new one.

I think that rule applies to many things in life, including with Mastodon. The responsibility of deciding whether to use it or not lies with you. If believe it's not for you then don't use it.
