To give you a little lay of the land, do you follow our publication, Better Humans? Not every article we publish is like this 18,000 word monstrosity, but we do take special care to make sure that everything we publish has been tested — not just to see if the advice works but also to make sure that the advice comes with a sensible tutorial.

Our publication is part of a shift at Medium to push out content marketers. I think this what you’re talking about with low-quality content. Content marketers find great topics and write compelling headlines, which is why their articles are constantly in front of your face. But Medium has been removing incentives for these marketers and bringing in more publishers with incentives to focus on quality. We’re part of that movement, although it comes with a different trade off. Instead of advertising you something, we’re expecting to get paid from you directly. I think that’s a fair tradeoff and I hope you will consider joining Medium’s Membership program, which is how that payment happens.
